Syracuse linebacker Anwar Sparrow announced he’s entering the transfer portal on social media Thursday. After redshirting his freshman campaign in 2020, Sparrow appeared in 39 games for the Orange from 2021-24.
The linebacker only played in three 2021 contests before becoming a mainstay in SU’s linebacking corps a year later. In 2022, he notched a career-high 40 tackles across 11 games. Last year, Sparrow played in all 13 of Syracuse’s games while registering 30 tackles.
Though in SU’s first year under head coach Fran Brown, Sparrow saw his role significantly reduced. He notched a season-high 30 snaps in Week 2, according to Pro Football Focus. Sparrow saw his playing time decrease as the season progressed, with Marlowe Wax returning from injury while Justin Barron’s role as a linebacker increased.
The redshirt junior finished the regular season with nine tackles. He announced he’s entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.
