Allie Kelley was named the February Atlantic Hockey America Goaltender of the Month, the conference announced Tuesday. The honor comes after Syracuse accumulated a 6-3 record from Feb. 1 to March 2, in which Kelley averaged two goals allowed per game.
As February began, Kelley immediately led SU to its first shutout in nearly three months. The Orange handily defeated Lindenwood for their biggest win of the season as Kelley tallied 30 saves in the 5-0 thrashing. In the contest, Kelley also saved her third penalty shot attempt of the season, a try from the Lions’ Morgan Neitzke.
As SU continued to win, Kelley’s dominance emerged. The graduate student led the Orange to a weekend series sweep over Robert Morris on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, extending their winning streak to a season-high five games.
The following weekend, Kelley took a step back, allowing four goals in a 5-3 loss to Mercyhurst, yet the next day, she conceded just two goals on 42 shots. The 4-2 win was also SU’s first over the Lakers since Feb. 26, 2022.
To close out the month, Kelley dominated on postseason ice. She led SU to an AHA Quarterfinal overtime win over RMU — her second straight 40-save performance — before she notched 47 saves on Feb. 28 against Mercyhurst in a 1-0 victory. Despite her control, Kelley conceded four goals in each of the Orange’s final two games, leading to their exit in the AHA Semifinals.
Overall, Kelley tallied 297 saves and posted a .943 save percentage across SU’s final nine games. She had four games of 40-plus saves, and her 1,241 saves on the year currently lead the nation. The honor is Kelley’s first monthly honor of the season, to go with two AHA Goaltender of the Week awards (Feb. 3 and Feb. 10).
