Syracuse University will pay $50,000 more in city supplemental service fees in 2020, as shown in Mayor Ben Walsh’s latest budget proposal.

The proposal is part of a five-year service fee plan between SU and the city of Syracuse from 2016.

The budget proposal would require SU to pay $950,000 in supplemental service fees to the city for the fiscal year 2020. SU is projected to pay $900,000 for the 2019 fiscal year — the 2020 cost marks a 5.6% increase in costs from fiscal year 2019. SU paid $850,000 in service fees in 2018.

SU will also pay $50,000 more in traffic reimbursement fees for the Carrier Dome. SU would pay the city a total of $300,000 in these fees, which is 20% more than the $250,000 that SU paid in fiscal year 2019, according to budget documents.

Walsh released his recommended budget estimates for fiscal year 2020 earlier this week. If the budget recommendations pass, Syracuse will see a 3% increase in the city’s general fund and a 9% increase in the city school district fund from the fiscal year 2019 adopted budget.

If approved, Walsh’s budget would collect nearly $52.3 million more in funding than last year’s budget, totaling a 7.3% increase for fiscal year 2020.

CLARIFICATION: In a previous version of this post, the date the proposal was announced was unclear. The budget proposal reflects an agreed upon service agreement between SU and the city of Syracuse from 2016.
