A man started a fire on the porch of a Syracuse University student’s Ackerman Avenue apartment early Saturday after he wasn’t allowed inside, Syracuse police said.

The student was walking into his apartment on the 800 block of Ackerman Avenue with a few friends when three men also tried to enter with the group, police said.

The men threw bottles at the apartment, but then one threw a lit gas can onto the second-floor porch, starting a fire, police said. They ran off, and the student was able to toss the gas can off the porch and put out the fire.

Police said no arrests have been made and no one was injured.
