Syracuse announces date of season-opening game against Penn State
Syracuse will open the 2013 football season against Penn State on August 31 at MetLife Stadium in “New York’s College Classic,” SU Athletics announced on Thursday.
It’s the second of 14 games the Orange will play at the stadium through 2038. Syracuse played Southern California at MetLife Stadium this past season, falling to the Trojans 42-29. The Nittany Lions haven’t played at the Meadowlands since 2000, when they played USC in the Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium.
Syracuse and Penn State last played in 2009 down at State College, Pa. The Nittany Lions beat the Orange 28-7 in that game.
“We look forward to starting our 2013 season by rekindling an age-old rivalry against a prestigious Penn State program,” Syracuse Football Coach Scott Shafer said in a press release. “It is a great opportunity for us to kick off the three-game series with the Nittany Lions in front of one of our largest alumni fan bases at MetLife Stadium.”
Tickets for the game will go on sale April 22 at 10 a.m.
