Syracuse basketball recruiting: 2016 forward Taurean Thompson reportedly down to 3 schools

Class of 2016 forward Taurean Thompson is deciding between Syracuse, Michigan State and Seton Hall, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot-9, 200-pound Thompson recently visited SU, per 247Sports.com. He is ranked as the 75th best player in the 2016 class by ESPN, as the 77th best by 247Sports and as the 86th best by Scout.com. All three sites have him ranked with four stars.

The Brewster (New Hampshire) Academy forward would be the third commit out of high school in the 2016 class, joining forward Matthew Moyer and guard Tyus Battle. The Orange is also adding fifth-year senior John Gillon, who transferred from Colorado State. Center Paschal Chukwu, who transferred from Providence, was on the team last year but was ineligible to play due to NCAA rules. Thus SU would have five new players eligible to play if Thompson chooses Syracuse.

The Orange also recently hosted 7-foot Turkish center Omer Yurtseven on a recruiting visit. SU currently has two scholarships available for the 2016-17 season, which includes Malachi Richardson returning for his sophomore year. If he remains in the NBA Draft past May 25, another scholarship spot would open up for Syracuse. Here’s a comprehensive graphical breakdown of SU’s scholarship situation.
